The Evans Family} Perth Family Photographer
Posted on February 24, 2011
Now I should have started with . . . ‘the day dawned clear and bright with hot beautiful skies’ .. . but it didn’t. We have had a handful of cloudy days this summer and the day that I got to out to the Swan Valley to shoot this lovely family it was overcast and threatening to rain. Despite the weather, I managed to capture this family and enjoyed doing it. Unfortunately, a bee sting didn’t help – but it was all OK at the end!
Enjoy!

I just couldn’t wait to put up one little sneak peek from the wedding of Kelly & Ben. I know it’s not of both of them, but I’m just so in love with it. Thank you to Holly, from Holly Netto Photography in helping me create this image. Thank you to Kelly & Ben for being such a beautiful couple . . . it was a pleasure to spend the day with you at the Peel Manor House.

The $1500 Wedding Photographer } Perth Wedding Photographer
Posted on February 15, 2011
Stick by me folks . . . this a gruesome and dismaying tale of cheap wedding photography vs decent photography…
I recently had a conversation with a Bride who said to me:
“I don’t know why photographers charge $1500 for one day’s work. As soon as you put ‘wedding’ before anything, then they overcharge. I don’t earn $1500 for my one day of work”
I had a feeling right there and then, that this is really the perception of the average person booking a wedding photographer. And why not? They don’t see any of the behind-the-scene’s- work and because they only see you on the wedding day then the perception becomes a reality.
So what do wedding photographers do then to earn all that cash? Here’s a working wedding timeline for me (bearing in mind that I have no employee’s and all the work is done by me).
- I receive an inquiry, I answer it and then emails may go back and forth for a while: 1 hour
- I meet with my potential Bride & Groom 2 hours
- Paperwork back and forth 1 hour
- E Session shoot location scout 2 hours
- E Session 2 hours
- Proofing and Online Gallery Prep/Blog Post 4 hours
- Printing images 2 hours
- Wedding location scout 2 hours
- More emails 1 hours
- Wedding Day 9 hours
- Blog post 4 hours
- Proofing, Proof Book, Online Gallery 10 hours
- Viewing of images 2 hours
- Emails 1 hours
This equates to around 43 hours work = wait a moment, isn’t that now an entire weeks work in an office job?
I would now be paid $43/hr. You might think . . . that’s not bad at all! But wait, it doesn’t end there. I might get paid $1500 for that time, but I have to also provide $20,000 worth of equipment, professional indemnity insurance and equipment insurance, internet, website, fuel, car, professional body fee’s, my assistants wage and so forth.
I’m now down to $20/hr . . . . . hmm . . . . what did you just pay your plumber to come and fix those leaks you had . . .$160 per hour?
So the important questions you need to ask yourself is this:
Do you spend money on a reputable and professional Wedding Photographer vs Spending $1000-1500 on a wedding cake? (where only half your guests will eat and no one will remember it)
Do you want beautiful photographs that even your Grandchildren will see and love vs Spending $4000 on a limo that you will have for four hours and then will never see it again (and in 50 yrs struggle to remember what kind of car it was)
I want to finish with a conversation I had with another person a little while ago:
I was asked my profession and I happily told her that I was a Wedding Photographer and immediately her face darkened and she replied,
“a wedding photographer? There are some seriously shonky wedding photographers out there!”
Uh oh, I thought, there is a story here that she needs to tell me, so I asked gently if she had had a bad experience
“oh yes!” she says “my sister paid $1500 and the photographer was completely unprofessional and the photo’s were terrible, she cries every time she looks at them”
My case in point. Do yourself a favor and don’t make your photography budget $1500.

From baby to child in a blink of an eye} Perth Family Photographer
Posted on February 14, 2011
Everytime I photograph these two children it reminds me of how quickly time goes by. I have known these two since my own eldest was a year old and now 9 years later . . . . they are so different, so individual and grown up.
2003
I took these of Chelsea when she was 2 and half years old. The image with her in blue won second place in the Better Photography Magazine.
She was so full of spirit and individuality, her character shone through even then.
2010
Amazing isn’t she? Her hair is so beautiful and she has the most amazing eyes.
2005
When I first photographed George, he was still in his mother’s belly. He looks so much like Chelsea and yet such a different personality.
He’s quieter and sweeter but with a cheeky sense of humor. And honestly, who could resist those baby chubby cheeks
2010
Gone are the baby cheeks!! He’s handsome, cheeky and loves his mother!
2005
2010
This set of images was blown up to a huge canvas 1.5 m wide and it sits proudly on their lounge wall and looks simply amazing.
As always, Denice it was a pleasure to photograph your beautiful children!

The G Family {Perth Family Photographer}
Posted on February 11, 2011
There is a gorgeous beach near Trigg that is practically empty all the time and makes for the perfect backdrop for photographs . . but . . . and there is a but . . . family photography at the beach is fraught with problems. Firstly, you need to contend with wind . . . yes it howls here in the afternoon (most days) and as long as you don’t mind your hair looking crazy, then it’s fine! Secondly, it’s bright and it’s bright until the sun is almost creating the green flash you can sometimes see as it sinks down into the ocean. The West Australia sun doesn’t seem to gently darken . . . no it stays blindingly bright all of the time!! So you ask, why do a shoot at the beach then? Well . . .
1. If you love strictly candid’s & seriously fun shots . . . then the beach is for you. I tell everyone that brings towels and change of clothes because you’re going to get wet.
2. It’s Western Australia and it’s beautiful.
I have posted this shot a few months ago, but I wanted to re-visit it, because it’s part of the shoot for this family, and you will understand what I mean about getting wet.
I love the look on Kate’s face!
I do love it though, beach photography . . . kids just let go and become just kids . . . and isn’t that what I’m trying to capture?

Cake Decorating Kids Parties
Posted on February 11, 2011
A dear friend of mine has gone into the Cake business and now has started up a Cake Decorating course for children parties. My youngest and I went to one and loved it. My little one was enraptured to create her own Ladybird cake and Little Blossom cake and we spent almost two hours doing it. Helen (Sweet Things owner) is so patient with them and has all the tools to make the party easy and fun.
We had a ball Helen, and the cake’s were gorgeous!
So I’ve been pretty busy lately & Baby Alexander. . .

And I’ve found myself never having time to update this blog! Just the other day I was looking at my older Blog and I kinda of miss that one . . . so I am having a big think about what to do next with my blog. While I think . . . I thought I’d start catching up!
This beautiful boy was born last November (I know I’m so far behind) and he was so very delicious!
